Vine Pruner Advanced 2 Courses: the conversion
Marco Simonit introduces the new online courses and explains the importance of acquiring “know-how” to change the fate of plants.
What is “conversion” for Simonit&Sirch?
Conversion is a change in the way winegrowers interact with the vine, particularly through pruning: it involves a change in attitude on the part of those who cultivate the vineyard, with the aim of caring for the plants in a more conscious way.
A conscious approach
Simonit&Sirch Pruning offers a different approach, aimed at promoting the development of living wood, isolating damaged parts and helping the plant recover energy and vitality.
This conscious approach leads to greater longevity of the vine, better productivity and identity of the wine: acquiring new “know-how” can help give plants a much better life expectancy.
Developing living wood to prevent wood diseases
Observation of traditional vineyards, where plants were free to develop, shows how grapevines can live for many decades.
Ten years of observation in France (Gironde) have shown that branched training systems are less susceptible to wood diseases (such as esca disease) than non-branched systems.
Branched training systems recorded 5-17% of plants unproductive due to wood diseases, compared to 28-37% of non-branched systems. (P.Lecomte, B.Diarra, INRA 06-2021)
